“We wanted to do this setup because we wanted to welcome the Ministry of Tourism on board. It presents a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to highlight Guyana. We have produced seven world champions, and we could be headed to eight… for sure it’s a chance for us to get back where we need to be to start producing world champions again,” Abdool stated during a press conference held on Friday at the New Pegasus Suites, Kingston, Georgetown.
Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Kamrul Baksh, shared the importance of incorporating sport and tourism.
“We are happy to support sporting events across the spectrum. Sport tourism is a major pillar in Guyana’s tourism portfolio, and we want to continue to support the development of these sports. Boxing is crucial, and we want to raise the profile of the events being hosted here in Guyana,” Baksh noted.
Meanwhile, Bradley “Doggie” Sampson was present at the press conference and reiterated to all his fans that he will be there to “knock out” Mikhail “Guyanese Critic” Rodrigues in the second round of their official exhibition bout that is drawing major national attention.
The main bout of the boxing card will feature Guyana’s Elton Dharry against Tanzania’s Salmin Kassim in the first-ever male world title fight in Guyana.
