Hussain, commonly referred to as “Shaukat”, was reportedly taken to the hospital by public-spirited citizens who had found him lying on the roadway one day after he was reported missing.
The elderly man’s niece, Sadiyya Hassan, told Guyana Times that the relatives received information that Hussain was at the GPHC.
As such, Hussain’s family visited the hospital where they confirmed that the man had been hospitalised for days in the Male Surgical Ward.
However, at the time of their visit, Hussain was unable to tell them what transpired.
It is believed that he was physically assaulted between Wednesday and Thursday in the vicinity of the Plaisance Market.
He allegedly fell to the ground as a result of the assault and the person responsible for Hussain’s injuries reportedly left the elderly man on the roadway.
However, passersby in the area noticed the man lying on the ground and went to investigate.
Upon realising that the man was injured, he was taken to GPHC. A probe into the matter is currently ongoing by the police.
