Body of NWD man found floating in river

The decomposing body of a young man who went missing on Monday has been found floating in the Arakaka river in the North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini).
The body of 20-year-old Avinash Fernandes, called ‘Avi’, was fished out of the river after it was discovered by his former boss and a party of Policemen. The discovery was made at some time between 7:00h and 11:45h on Thursday. According to the Police, at the time of the discovery, no visible marks of violence were seen on the body.

Meanwhile, the Region’s Commander, Superintendent Khalid Mandall, has said the body was escorted to the Port Kaituma Public Hospital.
It was reported that Fernandes, of Mabaruma Compound, NWD, went missing from his camp site at 13 Miles Trail Line Backdam, Arakaka, NWD on April 5.
He had last been seen alive on April 5 at about 21:00hrs.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Similarly, on April 5, the partly decomposed body of 19-year-old Joel Skeete was discovered lying face down among the rocks along the western bank of the Demerara river in the vicinity of Belle Vue, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Skeete, a former Computer Science student at the University of Guyana, had disappeared after leaving a barbershop at the Demerara Harbour Bridge Mall on March 31.
Meanwhile, an autopsy performed on Skeete’s body on April 6 determined that he died by drowning. (G15)
