Mittelholzer records new personal best in Buenos Aires

Guyanese distance runner Hicks Mittelholzer produced a new personal best at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon in Argentina, completing the 21.1-kilometre (km) event in a net time of one hour, 21 minutes and nine seconds.
Mittelholzer placed 502nd among 28,729 ranked participants and finished 95th out of 2,250 runners in the men’s 18–29 category. The official results recorded a gun time of 1:23:00, with his 1:21:09 performance representing the time between crossing the starting line and reaching the finish.
“In terms of my performance, I was able to run a new personal best in the half marathon with an official time of 1:21:09, so I’m definitely happy with that,” Mittelholzer said.
“It shows me that the work I’ve been putting in is paying off, but at the same time, I know there is still a lot more work to be done.”

The 26-year-old Guyanese reached 5km in 19 minutes and 20 seconds before completing the next 5-km section in 18:42. He passed 15km in 57:33 and 20km in 1:17:09 before completing the remaining distance in four minutes.
Mittelholzer said the favourable weather, welcoming people and organisation of the race contributed to an enjoyable experience in Buenos Aires.
He also thanked the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and Gafsons Industries Limited, commonly known as Gafoors, for supporting his participation. Most of the cost associated with the trip was covered personally.
His attention will now turn to the 26.2-mile Atlantic City Marathon in New Jersey, United States, on October 18. The full marathon is scheduled to begin at 08:00h.
“Now the focus moves on to the next major event, which will be the Atlantic City Marathon on October 18, 2026,” he said. “That will be the full marathon distance, so the work continues from here. I’ll take some time to recover properly and then get back into training, with the aim of continuing to improve and hopefully producing another strong performance.”
After Atlantic City, Mittelholzer is hoping to close his competitive year at the Run Barbados Marathon and Wellness Weekend in Bridgetown. That event is scheduled for December 4–6, with the half marathon and marathon set for the final day.
