In light of the recent fatal accident on the Mocha Access Road, East Bank Demerara, and along the Diamond Scheme Access Road as well, the Public Infrastructure Ministry will be installing 100 streetlights along these roadways.
According to a statement from the ministry, over the years it has received several reports of accidents along the access roads of the two communities. The ministry said it is accelerating its planned installation of streetlights initiative.
“These two areas are ones that have experienced rapid development since their creations, thus leading to increased traffic and ultimately a greater likelihood of accidents… It is necessary that the infrastructure in these communities reflect their growth,” the ministry stated.
However, the Public Infrastructure Ministry did not say when these lights will be installed but noted that further details will be announced at a later date.
