The Montrose Bhakti Bhavan Mandir held its first Gita recitation competition earlier this week, which saw participation from a number of children.

One of the organisers, Pandit Mahadeo Brijmohan, told Guyana Times that the competition was based on verses of the Bhagavad Gita. Emphasis was placed on Chapter 12; Bhakti Yogah which translates to the Path of Devotion.
The four categories of the competition were the first five verses for the pre-primary level, first ten verses for the primary level and all 20 verses for the secondary level. Adults also participated in the initiative, which was described as fruitful.
Brijmohan said that they are hoping to make this an annual event where all other temples on the East Coast of Demerara will be invited.
