Five Friendship Village residents, including a mother and two of her sons, were on Friday charged with the murder of 23-year-old Chittesh Sukhai, who was killed during an attack at Friendship, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) earlier this week.

The five appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable murder charge was read to them. They were not required to plead.
Charged are 22-year-old Mohan Narine, also known as “Anil”; his brother, 26-year-old construction worker Gowcharran Narine, called “Terry”; 19-year-old construction worker Kumar Jailall, called “Aji”; 29-year-old Mahendra Budhram, called “Spoil Pop”, who is unemployed; and 47-year-old housewife Zynette Baichu, called “Zen”.
Baichu is the mother of Mohan and Gowcharran Narine. All five accused are residents of Friendship Village.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Shennelle Matterson told the court that Sukhai died as a result of multiple incised wounds and that cutlasses were used in the attack.
She said the prosecution was awaiting the post-mortem examination (PME) report and an analysis report.

The court granted the prosecution 45 days, and the matter was adjourned to November 9.
All five accused were remanded to prison.
Baichu and Gowcharran Narine are being represented by Attorney-at-Law Rian Crawford.
Sukhai, who was also known as “Rohan” and “Marsho”, was killed at Friendship, Corentyne, on September 28.
Police had reported that Sukhai was attacked and chopped several times during an altercation in the village.
Police also reported that two cutlasses were recovered and that two males were initially taken into custody as investigators continued their probe.
Sukhai was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he subsequently died.
