Motorcyclist dies after colliding with truck at Melanie
A 31-year-old motorcyclist is now dead after he was struck down by a truck along the Melanie Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Monday. The dead man has been identified as Leon Singh of Enmore, ECD.
According to reports received, at the time of the accident, the truck, bearing registration number GSS 5634, was driven by a 43-year-old resident of Bachelors Adventure, ECD.
Police preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was proceeding along the Melanie Access Road when the driver failed to stop at the corner. As a result, the truck ended up in the path of the motorcycle bearing registration CH 3066 driven by Singh.
Police stated that the motorcycle collided with the right-side front of the truck, thus causing Singh to fall onto the roadway where he sustained injuries to his body including his head.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he succumbed while receiving medical attention. The driver of the motor lorry was arrested and is assisting with investigations.
On Friday last, Calvin Pitt of Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, died while receiving treatment at the GPHC after he reportedly crashed into the rear of a minibus along the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
It was reported that on the day in question, the minibus bearing registration number BMM 5344 was driving along the Prospect Public Road when the driver alleged that he felt a hard impact at the back of his vehicle.
As a result of the collision, Pitt was flung into the air and flew into the rear windscreen of the minibus. He landed on the rear passenger seat of the minibus.
He was subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he lost consciousness. He was admitted and treated for head injuries, broken ribs and fractured legs along with a series of other injuries. He nevertheless succumbed a few hours later.
