A motorcyclist of Ogle Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), a driver of Coralita Avenue, Bel Air Park Georgetown, and several passengers are currently injured following separate accidents that occurred over the weekend.
The first accident occurred at around 19:35h on Friday at Nelson Mandela Avenue and Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
Police have said the accident involved motorcycle CJ 3109, driven by Manasseh Singamsetty, 22, of Ogle ECD, and motorcar PVV 1276, owned and driven by Ceon Barton, 24, of Block L Republic Gardens, Peters Hall EBD.
Based on reports received, motorcar PVV 1276 was proceeding east on the northern side of Hadfield Street while motorcycle CJ 3109 was proceeding south on the eastern drive lane of the eastern carriageway of Nelson Mandela Avenue. As the driver of the motorcar approached the intersection of Hadfield Street, he failed to stop and proceeded to cross the intersection going from the western carriageway to the eastern carriageway. In the process of doing so, he ended up in the path of the motorcycle, the front centre of which came into contact with the left side front of his motorcar.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell on the road surface and received injuries about her body.
She was picked up in a conscious state by the driver and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, and treated for abrasions about the body.
She later took self-discharge and went to the Balwant Singh Hospital, where she was also seen and examined by a doctor on duty and treated for a fractured right arm and a fractured right leg. She was later admitted a patient in the said institution.
Meanwhile, a notice of intended prosecution has been prepared and served on the driver of motorcar PVV 1267. A breathalyzer test was also completed on him, the results of which revealed that he had .019% BAC in his breath.
He is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
The second accident occurred at High and Barrack Streets Kingston, Georgetown on Saturday at around 12:00h.
That accident involved motorcar PLL 4477 driven by Mohan Chan-A-Sue,82, of Coralita Avenue, Bel Air Park Georgetown, motorcar PWW 5212 owned and parked by Wayne Ramcharran, 65, of Westminster, West Bank Demerara, and minibus BSS 8899 owned and driven by Raymond Douglas, 28, of New Settlers Street, Mocha Village, East Bank Demerara.
Passengers Deon Thomas, 32, of Haslington ECD and Shellon Marks, 26, of Melanie Damishana ECD, who were in minibus BSS 8899 at the time, were injured, the Police have said.
According to reports, motorcar PLL 4477 was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Barrack Street, and as it approached the intersection of High and Barrack Streets, the driver failed to stop, and continued further east across the said intersection.
His vehicle ended up in front of minibus BSS 8899, which at the time was proceeding north along the western drive lane of High Street. As a result, the front of the bus collided with the right-side centre portion of the said motorcar.
Due to the collision, the driver of motorcar PLL 4477 lost control of his vehicle and collided with motorcar PWW 5212, which was parked on the eastern side parapet of High Street facing north.
The driver of motorcar PLL 4477 and the passengers of the minibus received injuries, and were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by doctors on duty.
However, the driver and occupant of motorcar #PLL 4477 were admitted as patients at the hospital, while the two minibus passengers were treated and sent away.
