Motorcyclist severely injured in EBD accident

A man was severely injured and left in an unconscious state after his motorcycle was struck by a car on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) on Friday afternoon.
Based on information received, the accident occurred at about 16:35h.

According to an eyewitness, Oneika Hilliman, the motorcyclist was proceeding from Georgetown on motorcycle CE 9303, in the vicinity of Nandy Park when the incident unfolded. This newspaper was told that as he was proceeding south, a black vehicle turning left into Nandy Park resulted in a collision. A loud noise followed, alerting persons to turn their attention.
As a result of the impact, he was flung some distance and ended up colliding with a concrete median on the corner of the road. The said car then struck another vehicle which was in its path.
Officers of a nearby Police outpost responded to the accident.
The rider of the motorcycle, in an unconscious state with severe injuries to one of his legs, was picked up by Police and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. The cycle remained at the corner of the road with shards of glass scattered.
This is the second accident in two days involving a motorcycle, with countless others recorded for the year. On Wednesday, a 16-year-old student of Bina Hill Secondary School, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) died after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding along the Annai main access road
Danillo Allicock of Surama Village, North Rupununi, Region Nine was pronounced dead on arrival at the Lethem Regional Hospital. The pillion rider, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene with the motorcycle leaving Allicock’s body on the roadway.
