Munisar spins web as Guyana outclasses Jamaica in Super50 opener

Guyana’s women made a confident start to their CG United Women’s Super 50 Cup campaign on Tuesday morning, with a five-wicket victory over Jamaica Women in their opening encounter at the Cumberland Playing Field.
Jamaica won the toss and chose to bat first but struggled to build any meaningful partnerships against a disciplined Guyana bowling attack. The Jamaicans were dismissed for just 76 in 27.3 overs, with only opening batter Chrishana McKenzie offering notable resistance. McKenzie top-scored with a patient 26 from 69 deliveries, while Chedean Nation was one of the few batters to reach double figures, contributing 12.

Guyana women win their opening game

Spin proved decisive for Guyana, accounting for all ten Jamaican wickets. Ashmini Munisar led the charge with impressive figures of 4 for 23, consistently troubling the batters with her accuracy and variation. She was well supported by Kaysia Schultz and Tramaine Marks, who each claimed two wickets to keep the pressure firmly on the opposition.
In reply, Guyana’s chase was steady rather than spectacular, as Jamaica’s bowlers fought hard to defend a modest total. Shabika Gajnabi anchored the innings with an unbeaten 23 from 44 balls, while Sheneta Grimmond provided useful support with 17. Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, Guyana remained in control of the run chase.
Stefanie Taylor, Kate Wilmott, Vanessa Watts, and Neisha-Ann Waisome each picked up a wicket for Jamaica, but the total proved too small to seriously threaten. Guyana eventually reached 77 for 5 in 27 overs, sealing victory with relative comfort.
The win gives Guyana early momentum in the tournament as they look to build consistency in the group stage. They are scheduled to play their next match on Thursday at the Park Hill Playing Field, where they will face Trinidad and Tobago Women from 09:30h.
