Murder accused charged for wounding inmate

Remanded murder accused Samuel Gouveia was on Friday further remanded to prison by Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly after being arraigned in her court on an additional charge of wounding a prison inmate with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
The 25-year-old Gouveia denied that, on March 16, 2018, he inflicted wounds on his cellmate, Cleveland Simon.
The matter has been adjourned to April 23.
Gouveia, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, has been accused of fatally stabbing Santee Solomon at Puruni Landing, near the Cuyuni River in Region Seven, on November 23, 2015. In that case, the prosecution is contending that Solomon, 35, of Line Path, Skeldon, Corriverton, East Berbice, was working in the interior with Bacchus International Gold Mines when he was killed.
