Jordan Johnson and Guyana’s Matthew Nandu were shining stars for Team Auguste in the team’s win over Team DePeiza in the third West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 warm-up game on Thursday at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
In pursuit of 240, Team Auguste coasted to an eight-wicket victory in just 40.3 overs. Team Auguste were 56-2 when Johnson joined the left-handed opener Nandu, and the duo were dominant in an unbeaten stand of 184.
Jordan finished on 111 not out off 104 balls with 13 fours and one six, while Nandu struck 85* off 98 balls, decorated with eight fours.
Team DePeiza had posted 239 from 49.3 overs with opener Shaq Parris making 60 off 84 (7x4s) and Kevin Wickham 55 off 71 (4x4s, 1×6).
Giovonte DePeiza missed out on a half-century, scoring 49 off 50 balls (1×4, 4x6s). Bowling for Team Auguste, Nathan Edwards took 3-45, Nandu 2-34, and Vasant Singh 2-47.
Team DePeiza won the first two games, the opening one by six wickets and the second by two wickets. The West Indies Rising Stars Under-19s are preparing for the prestigious International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup tournament, which they last won in 2016 under Shimron Hetmyer. This edition of the U-19 World Cup will be hosted by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in the Caribbean from January 4 to February 3, 2022.
The warm-up games are part of a five-match series to finalise the squad preparation for the global event. Game four is on Saturday (November 27) at the same venue in Antigua.
