National Swim Programme paddles off today

Scores of children will on Monday get the opportunity of a lifetime to learn or refresh their memory of a basic life skill when the Department of Social Cohesion of the Ministry of the Presidency and the National Sports Commission (NSC) hosts their annual ‘Learn to Swim’ Programme.

This programme, which caters to school- age children every year, is aimed at teaching the skill of swimming, which can come in handy in the future.
The programme had, in past years, been a huge success, attracting over 100 students at each session and ensuring that they leave with the much-needed skill. Organisers have even gone as far to implement an Easter version of the programme. This year’s installment of the vacation edition will run from July 9th to August 17th, 2018.

The Colgrain Swimming Pool, located on Camp Street, will be host to the children, aged 6-10 years, whilst the National Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara will be venue for the sessions for the 11-to-16-year-olds.
