NDC calls for closer partnership with Region 2 administration

Chairpersons who were recently sworn in to serve at five Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) along the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are calling for closer collaboration with the regional administration in 2018. coming New Year.
During the swearing in ceremony held in the boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in Anna Regina, the Councillors pledged to execute their duties with all fairness but explained they can only do so with cooperation from the regional administration.
According to Arnold Adams, a Councillor from the Pomona/Good Hope NDC, often times the NDC’s role in decision-making is undermined, explaining that numerous times essential infrastructure projects are executed and bills of quantities are not sent to the NDC. This, he said, is affecting effective monitoring.
“Often time the RDC will be executing projects within our municipality and we would have no clue as to what’s going on. Sometimes the projects are half way done and only then we are made aware that something is happening in the community, this must stop in 2018,” another Chairperson explained.
Other Councillors from the various NDCs said that apart from subvention, there are more works that need to be done within the NDC’s where emphasis should be placed on necessary infrastructure, such as roads and bridges as well as improved drainage systems.
“We need more assistance from the regional administration. They must inform us. When we have our programmes we have to reschedule, works can be monitored if we have the bills of quantities.”
Some of the projects that are outstanding include sea defence work at Good Hope/Pomona, the cleaning of road shoulders and the clearing of several drains within various communities.
