Exciting girls’ football action took over Region 10 over the weekend as the Blue Water Shipping Girls’ Under-15 tournament headed to the mining town.
Among the standouts over the weekend were President’s College and New Central High, which have both found places in the final eight of the national schools’ tournament, coordinated by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
For New Central High, the team’s journey has been driven by consistent performances, with Amanda Saunders finding the back of the net at every stage of the competition. At the other end of the field, goalkeeper Latifa Ramsey has been a standout performer, producing a series of crucial saves during the Region 10 competition on Saturday, June 27, as Mackenzie High relentlessly pressed the team.

Saunders converted a penalty opportunity in a crucial 1-1 draw against Mackenzie High School. Mackenzie’s Ashti Balgobin had netted earlier in that contest. Meanwhile, Atavia Drakes found the back of the net for New Central in their 1-0 victory over Dora Secondary.
On the other hand, President College, no stranger to the competition, cruised past their competitors, picking up three wins from as many matches, for a perfect record at the weekend.
A solitary strike from Semel Blake saw PC edging Mackenzie High 1-0 while goals off the boots of Selena Williams, Nalini LaRose, and Dilma Edwards led the team to a comfortable 3-0 drubbing of New Central High.

Other results in last weekend’s competition saw Mackenzie High and Dora Secondary playing to a nil-all stalemate.
As such, with the competition’s Round of 16 now competed, both President’s College and New Central High have officially advanced to the final eight.
Meanwhile, in Region Nine, inclement weather has forced the postponement of the Region’s championship determination. According to the Federation, the final qualifier will not be determined tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Wauna Primary, Waramuri Secondary, Mahdia Secondary, President’s College, The New Central High, Barricade Secondary, and Marian Academy are the teams already advanced to the final eight and they will not be awaiting the Region Nine champion to complete the roster.
