The City Council’s Solid Waste Department now has a new Deputy Solid Waste Director, who will seek to lessen the workload of the current Director of Waste, Walter Narine. At Monday’s statutory meeting, the recommendation to appoint Floyd Rollins to the position was discussed.

An internal vacancy was posted within the M&CC for qualified and able-bodied persons to apply for the time-consuming post. Rollins, who currently serves as an environmentalist for the M&CC, was singled out for the position. The job will entail assisting Narine in running the affairs of the city’s Solid Waste Department, which is currently busy with consulting citizens on implementing a fee for garbage collection.
Councillor Noelle Chow-Chee stood before the Council and attested to the efficient work that Rollins is said to be doing. She noted that he was conscientious and she supported the idea to appoint him 100 per cent. After which, Councillor Alfred Mentore moved the motion to act on Town Clerk Royston King’s proposal to appoint Rollins. The motion garnered a total of 14 yes votes, zero opposing and three persons in abstention.
Councillor Akeem Peter, who was acting as chair of the meeting in the absence of both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, was the first to congratulate Rollins on his new position and expressed hope that he would act well in his capacity.
