The Government is moving to strengthen garbage collection in Georgetown and across Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), with new measures expected to be announced shortly.
Local Government and Regional Development Minister Priya Manickchand and Permanent Secretary Miguel Choo-Kang met with Chief Sanitation Officer Walter Narine, Georgetown Town Clerk Candace Nelson and contractors engaged by the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) to reinforce the Central Government’s position that garbage collection must be reliable, consistent and predictable.
According to the Local Government and Regional Development Ministry, the meeting focused on measures to improve garbage collection and service delivery across Georgetown.
The Ministry said new measures are being developed to strengthen the collection system in the capital, with further details to be announced shortly.
It also announced that a national plan to strengthen garbage collection across every NDC will soon be rolled out.
