New tourist facility opens in Berbice

J&J Fun Park owner, Guyanese Fitz Joseph

With unique activities such as ziplining and features such as a petting zoo, a newly-opened facility is hoping to dominate the local tourism industry and provide a higher level of service to Guyanese and foreigners.
The new facility is situated at Gangoo Creek on the East Bank of Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), about 15 miles outside of New Amsterdam.
It sits on 14 acres of prime land adjacent to the main access road.
J&J Fun Park is owned by Guyanese Fitz Joseph.
“The J&J is the initials for my kids,” he explained to Guyana Times.
The facility has a wide variety of activities for kids and adults. Joseph explained that the facility offered both indoor and outdoor activities and is safe for kids.
“We have darts which are magnetic for the kids; we also have bowling, basketball and volleyball. We also have football for the kids, badminton for adults and corn hole,” Joseph said as he listed a few of the activities for visitors.
Waterslides, a trampoline and seesaws are also included.
J&J Fun Park also offers a nature walk and a trip to its farm, where visitors can eat fresh fruits as they experience the farm which has a variety of fruit trees.
Being the owner of the farm and being a fun person, he hosted numerous fun activities at the farm and invited many friends. Others also went to the farm from time to time to participate in fun activities. According to Joseph, based on the popularity of his farm as a destination, he decided to open the fun park.
“We are talking about three-legged race, tug-o-war, fish catching competitions – we did all of those. Beer drinking competition, we did that so I said let’s put this to the public so that they can enjoy it, not just us alone,” he related.
Currently, just over two acres of land is being utilised.
Looking ahead, Joseph intends to make full use of the canal which cuts through the property to build a kissing bridge allowing visitors to experience untouched vegetation and bird watching as they go on guided nature walks.
A petting zoo is soon to come on stream as the fun park develops.
As it relates to hosting guests, two apartments are being constructed. This is to be followed by the construction of several flats and the availability of tents.
Currently, the facility has the capacity to cater for large social occasions. The facility was formally opened to the public on Sunday. (G4)
