Michael Balkarran of Mike’s Floor Covering, 4210 Avenue D, Brooklyn, New York, 11203, USA, made donations of cricketing gear to Guyana’s Under-15 and Tucber Park cricketers, Zeynul Ramsammy and Tomani Caesar. The New York businessman also donated team uniforms to Tucber Park Cricket Club (TPCC) in New Amsterdam earlier in 2018.
Balkarran had observed Caesar and Ramsammy in 2017 when they displayed their cricketing talents in an Under-13 final played at Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) against the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Under-13 team. Ramsammy and Caesar played for Blairmont Under-13 in that tournament where the duo dominated. Ramsammy in particular had a monumental tournament as he was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP), scoring approximately 200 runs.
In 2018, Ramsammy and Caesar went on to represent the Guyana Under-15 team in the tournament played in Jamaica; Caesar was the wicketkeeper-batsman while Ramsammy was the Captain of the team that finished second to Barbados in the Regional Under-15 tournament.
Additionally, Balkarran donated white uniforms to the TPCC. Over the years, TPCC have produced national and international cricketers, with Guyana Jaguars and West Indies A fast bowling all-rounder Romario Shepherd being the most recent.
The businessman has recognised the success the Club has had over the years, and he decided to invest in the youths since they are the future. Like thousands of Guyanese living in New York, Balkarran also has a passion for cricket and he will continue to make contributions in his home country, Guyana.
TPCC is managed and coached by arguably one of the best coaches in Guyana, Julian Moore, who is also a junior selector. West Indies female player Tremayne Smartt is also an active member of the Cricket Club. The members and parents of the Club greatly thanked the New York businessman for his worthy contributions.
