recalled hearing a noise and got out of his bed to check but did not see anything.
He explained that he returned to bed and soon, there was another banging sound. At that time, he and his 78-year-old wife were alone in the building.
Upon hearing the second sound, he went to the verandah where he noticed someone running out of the building on the second floor.
“I could have shot him in the back if I had my gun,” Lalsa told Guyana Times.
This was the fifth time his building was broken into. During the first breakage, his firearm was stolen.
In January, the building was broken into and the store was ransacked. Upon checking, phone cards, cigarettes, cash and alcohol were missing. A strange handheld power drill was later found in the shop.
On December 23, bandits broke into the store and removed close to $1 million in cash and other valuables. At that time, the businessman was preparing to head to Georgetown to transact business.
In another robbery, the bandits gained entry from the back of the yard and broke their way into the building where they removed the businessman’s firearm and almost $1 million in valuables from the premises.
The businessman had previously expressed fear for his life and was willing to sell his property and migrate. The police are continuing their investigations.
