NOC escapees charged for robbing Govt MP

Two juveniles from the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) on the Essequibo Coast, who reportedly escaped from the facility on July 25 and allegedly went on a robbery spree, were on Friday arraigned before Suddie Magistrate Ester Sam to answer break and enter and larceny charges.

The 16-year-old resident of West Coast Berbice and a 17-year-old resident of La Parfaite Harmonie on the West Bank of Demerara admitted to breaking and entering the Johanna Cecilia, Essequibo Coast home of Member of Parliament Haimraj Rajkumar on July 25, and stealing boots, perfumes and clothing cumulatively valued at $129,000.

The duo was recaptured on July 26 by public spirited citizens.

Following their guilty plea, the magistrate ordered probation reports to be prepared before sentence is handed down.
