NOC inmates recaptured after escaping custody

Three inmates who were serving time for various illegal activities at the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) at Onderneeming on the Essequibo Coast, reportedly escaped custody on Sunday , after a church service.
They were, however, recaptured by officials at the juvenile correctional institution and placed in the dormitory.
Information reaching Guyana Times revealed that around 14:45h on January 22, the trio escaped. Sixteen-year-old Noel Husbands from Kwakwani, who was serving a one-year sentence for break and enter and larceny, was among the escapees. The inmates made their dash for freedom after a church service conducted by the Administration Manager, Pasaram Singh.
As they were returning to their dormitory, Husbands, along with 15-year-old O’Neil Benn of Berbice and Wazir Ally, 16, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara made a sudden dash for freedom and ran west out of the compound to the backlands. Officials immediately informed the Police and searches were conducted.
All three of the escapees were later recaptured in the compound. Investigations are currently being conducted by officials from the NOC and the Police Force.
