Nurse plunges into trench to avoid being caught with gun

Police arrested a 24-year-old male nurse around 19:15h along Woolford Avenue on Tuesday after he plunged into a trench to avoid being caught with a gun.
Officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said they were on motorcycle patrol on Woolford Avenue, Georgetown when a male riding a gold and black XR motorcycle was stopped and questioned by the ranks.

He then suddenly dismounted the motorcycle, and ran over, with Police in pursuit, to a nearby trench into which he leaped. He was apprehended in the waterway.
Checks were subsequently made in the trench and a silver .32 revolver with the serial number filed off was found.
The nurse was told of the offence committed and cautioned during which time he remained silent.
He, along with the firearm, was taken to the Alberttown Police Station, where he was placed into custody and the firearm was marked, sealed, and lodged along with the motorcycle. (G9)
