NWD man arrested following discovery of gun in house

A 46-year-old farmer of William Place, Baramita Village, North West District (NWD), was on Tuesday evening arrested following the discovery of a shotgun in his home.

man’s home about 20:30h and conducted a search during which the unlicensed single-barrel shotgun was unearthed.

He is expected to make his court appearance before the end of the week.

Only recently, Police stated that a total of 64 illegal firearms were taken off the streets up to the end of May, compared to 29 for the corresponding period last year.

These included 39 pistols, eight revolvers, nine shotguns, and eight rifles.

Twenty-seven of these firearms were found in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank); five in B Division (Berbice); seven in C Division (East Coast); five in D Division (West Demerara), one in E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) and 19 found in F Division (Lethem and Interior Locations).

There was no firearm seizure in G Division during this time.
