Odyssey Sight Seeing/WDCA 50 Overs Tournament: Windsor Forest A defeat Shamrock in low-scoring thriller

Action in the Odyssey Sight Seeing/West Demerara Cricket Association’s 50 Overs Tournament continued over the weekend with Windsor Forest A winning against Shamrock Cricket Club at the Uitvlugt Ground in a low-scoring match that saw Windsor Forest A winning by 5 wickets.

Raylex Payne bagged 4-14, Deendyal Guyadeen supported with 3-23, Kenzo Baksh led the charge with 34*, Avinash Ganesh chipped in with 30

Shamrock won the toss and took first strike, and were in trouble from the very first over, as Deendyal Guyadeen struck with the 4th ball of the match. Thereafter, Shamrock could not put together a solid partnership, and were eventually bowled out for 90 runs scored in 17.2 overs.
Shamrock’s top-scorers were Aleem Khalil with 23 and Kenan Foster with 30, while Raylex Payne, bowling for Windsor Forest A, took 4 for 14 from 3.1 overs; Deendyal Guyadeen took 3 for 23 from 6 overs; Abdulaah Nizamudeen Wazidali took 2 for 18 from 5 overs, and Kishaun Tracy took a wicket for 13 from 3 overs.
Needing a simple target of 91 from 300 balls, Windsor Forest lost 5 wickets in the chase, but got to the total in 26.3 overs. Despite losing a few wickets early in the chase, they held their nerve and eventually emerged victorious, guided home by handy knocks from Kenzo Baksh with 34 and Avinash Ganesh with 30.
Bowling for Shamrock CC, Tameshwar Dass took 3 for 25 in 9 overs, Tavindra Mangra took a wicket for 16 runs in 6.3 overs, and Keyon Alexander took a wicket for 7 runs in 2 overs.
His team having emerged victorious, Vice-Captain Avinash Ganesh declared, “The game went well in our favour, of course. We could have been a bit more clinical in the field. It’s the first game we played for the competition. We had a walk-over victory on Sunday. We did not field our strongest 11 on Sunday, some of the guys weren’t around. But I expect us to improve over the next games, since everyone should be available for the final two games of the round-robin stage.
“I think we can progress far in the competition, and, on our day, we can upset any team. For us to take the title, we have to play hard and capitalise on any opportunity the game gives us.”
Windsor Forest A currently have 8 points from 2 games in the competition.
