Action continued in the Odyssey Sightseeing Tours’ 50 Overs West Demerara Cricket Competition with a brilliant knock of 184 from Kemol Savory, along with Anil Sukhdeo’s outstanding performance of 5-13 and Jamal Gomes’s remarkable haul of 5-21, highlighting the second round of play at various grounds in West Demerara.
Action at various grounds went as follows:
West Meter-Meer-Zorg Ground
West Demerara Police beat favourites Cornelia Ida by 67 runs. Batting first, Police made 285 for 7 from their 50 overs.
Kemol Savory reignited the glory days of West Demerara cricket with a classy 184 not out, which included 14 fours and 9 sixes, while Cornelia Ida were untidy with the ball, leaking 51 extras.
Bowling for Cornelia Ida, Akshay Persaud took 2 for 66 from his 10 overs, while Ushardeva Balgobin took 2 for 52.
In reply, Cornelia Ida were sent packing for 218 in 38.3 overs, Vaickesh Dhaniram top scoring with 71, which included six sixes and two fours. Azmudeen Dhaniram made 33, and Akshay Persaud made 20.
Bowling for the Police, Emmanuel Chrisnuth took 3 for 40, and Kemol Savory took 2 for 51 as they saw their team to Victory.
Zeeburg Ground
The hosts trashed Windsor Forest centre team by nine wickets. Batting first, Windsor Forest were all out for 154, made in 32.4 overs, with Rajiv Kadanauth scoring an attractive 84, which included 5 sixes and 8 fours.
Bowling for Zeeburg, pacer Jamal Gomes was impressive with 5 for 21, and valuable support came from Mark Jeffers with 3 for 21.
The hosts, in reply, raced to 157 for 1 in 13.4 overs, with aggressive left-hand
Opener Ricardo Poloram scoring 96, which included 11 sixes and 3 fours. Ronald Ranee supported with 34 not out.
Uitvlugt Ground
Windsor Forest beat Shamrock by 5 wickets. Batting first, Shamrock struggled to 90 all out, with Alim Khali eventually scoring 30. Bowling for Windsor Forest, Raylex Payne took 4 for 14; Deendyal Guyadeen took 3 for 23, and Abdallah Wazidali supported with 2 for 18.
Windsor Forest, in reply, scored 91 for 5 in 26.3 overs. Kenzo Baksh scored 34 not out, and Avinash Ganesh scored 30 to see their team to victory.
Meten-Meer-Zorg Ground
Meten-Meer-Zorg B beat Meten-Meer-Zorg A by one wicket in a low-scoring match. Batting first, Meten-Meer-Zorg A struggled to 73 all out, with Adrian Johnson, the only man to post double-figures, scoring 19. B Team captain Anil Sookdeo was very economical with 5 for 14 from six overs.
He was well supported by Vishal Jaigobin’s 2 for 11 and Vinod Rajkumar’s 2 for 15.
In reply, the ‘B’ team were at 4 wickets for 5 runs before Ellian White saw the team to victory with 17. Ryan Persaud also supported
with 12 not out.
Bowling for Meten-Meer-Zorg A, Reyaz Khan and Levroy Miggings each took 3 wickets, for 11 and 21 runs respectively. Sheldon Alexander took 2 for 21 in a losing cause.
