One Communications Expands Hinterland Reach

…unveils new retail outlet at Giftland Mall

In keeping with the Government’s push to advance digital transformation and improve access to services nationwide, One Communications has announced plans to expand into more hinterland communities while using its newly launched retail outlet as a blueprint for future upgrades across Guyana. Speaking at the launch of the new outlet at Giftland Mall, the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) at One Communications, Randall Emerson Hewitt, said the new space will set the tone for the vision the company has for its retail operations going forward.
“So, this new store is our new blueprint for what we are going to be doing across all of our retail properties over the next couple of years to achieve a consistent look, feel and standard. Our reason for being here is to wow customers every day and deliver on that expectation and high level of confidence that you have in our services and products across the length and breadth of Guyana.”
He added, “We are not only a coastal service. We are expanding into the hinterland to reach more communities as we seek to further the entire digitalisation process that the Government of Guyana has put forward and which we actively support.”

The Guyana Government is accelerating a major digital inclusion drive in hinterland communities to bridge the coast-to-interior digital divide. Through a combination of satellite connectivity, submarine cable infrastructure and terrestrial fibre-optic expansion, all 253 remote, riverain and Indigenous communities have been connected to high-speed internet. Meanwhile, President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Kathy Smith, welcomed the opening of the new One Communications outlet, noting that its location at Giftland Mall will make it more convenient for customers to access services while carrying out their daily activities. “I really want to take the opportunity to extend congratulations to the One Communications family on creating yet another opportunity for Guyanese to access services more conveniently. I am always impressed by institutions and organisations like One Communications that create spaces where consumers can feel at ease. Right here at Giftland Mall and OfficeMax, we know that many people come for a variety of reasons, and it makes sense that they can also conduct their business with One Communications while they are here.” Smith noted that One Communications has maintained a longstanding relationship with the business community, dating back to its years as GTT and through its various transitions over time. She said the company has consistently been among the organisations contributing to Guyana’s growth and development, particularly in the area of technological advancement and initiatives aimed at improving the ease of doing business. Smith commended the company for its continued investment in innovation and customer-focused services, noting that such efforts play an important role in supporting both businesses and consumers across the country.
The Government of Guyana continues to invest in expanding access to information and communication technology (ICT) in rural and hinterland communities across the country. Under the ICT Access and e-Services for Hinterland and Remote Communities Project, approximately 170 ICT hubs have been established to support education, telemedicine and access to Government services. Additionally, more than 1600 persons have received training in various areas of information and communications technology through the Office of the Prime Minister’s Industry and Innovation Unit.
