“One Guyana” King and Queen of the Sand: Semi-finalists decided ahead of Wednesday’s game

The ‘One Guyana’ King and Queen of the Sand beach football competition continued at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Linden compound on Saturday evening when four male teams secured victories in the quarterfinal round.
Prior to the men’s action, however, the ‘queens’ took to the sand, where Hururu FC pipped Rockstone on kicks from the penalty mark, after a deadlocked score at the end of regulation time.
Over in the ‘Kings’ competition, DC Ballers pulled off the first win of the night, edging Pro Ballers 1-0. DC’s Kendoulph Lewis was the marksman, finding the back of the net in the second half.
Next, another slim-margin result saw LA Ballers getting the better of Presidential. Omar Burley pierced the nets in the eight minute for the game-winning goal.
YMCA got past Gorillas comfortably, 2-0, in their encounter. Shaka Hail netted first for YMCA in the second minute, after which Jamal Bentick made it a 2-0 affair in the fifth minute.
The final game of the night was filled with thrills after a tied 2-2 score sent the contest between High Flyers and Platinum side into penalty kicks.
Malachi Todd opened the scoring for High Flyers in the fifth minute, and the next goal was witnessed in the 24th, when Isaiah Adams equalised for Platinum side. Devonten Tappin handed High Flyers the lead again in the 34th minute, but Adams would play the hero for Platinum side again in the 38th.
On kicks from the penalty mark, Platinum Side prevailed 2-0.
The Linden- based tournament is set to continue on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 with the semifinal round.
