Home News Opposition Leader meets Canal No 2 residents
Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, and People’s Progressive Party Civic Members of Parliament (PPP/C) Irfaan Ali and Dr Leslie Ramsammy met with hundreds of residents at a ‘bottom house’ meeting in Canal #2, West Bank Demerara.
The Opposition leader discussed a number of issues with the residents, such as those concerning rice, the economy, sugar, taxes and social services.
Residents were very vocal about their fears surrounding the spiralling crime situation, hardship faced with the closure of the nearby Wales sugar estate, Government’s seeming non-support to rice farmers, and the horrors of the sector. Rising cost of living, health care and rising unemployment were other issues residents were very concerned about. They also voiced their concerns on GECOM and the appointment of judges.
