Organisers expecting high-octane action in Courts Pee-Wee Football

– 16 matches slated for Saturday

The sixth edition of the Courts/Malta Pee-Wee Under-11 Schools Football Tournament will kick off on Saturday at the Thirst Park Ground, and the organiser is optimistic of more pulsating action.
The pee-wee tournament, which is the brainchild of the Petra Organisation, saw its Co-Director, Troy Mendonca on Thursday confidently stating much was expected given the eagerness showcased by teams.
“I think this year, the response especially from the teams and teachers is very encouraging. Everyone seems ready and raring to go. Teams are more prepared, so expect a very high competition. The youngster [Martin King] who went to Barcelona to train is an inspiration to other players,” Mendonca contended.
Most notably, the tournament which traditionally attracted Georgetown school teams has now expanded its reach to accommodate teams from East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara, taking its tally to 32 teams this year.
The move, according to Mendonca, is one which possibly paves the way for a nationwide tournament in years to come.

The Under-11s will make their return to the Thirst Park Ground this Saturday for what is expected to be pulsating action

“Definitely. Over the years, we have been getting calls from persons outside of Georgetown. We have indicated to our sponsors a few years ago, but they were not ready. This year, we invited 10 teams, but hopefully next year with a collaborative effort we can do it nationwide.”
St Angela’s boys are the defending champions of the tournament, after becoming the only team to win back-to-back titles in 2016. They also have the distinction of being the only school to have never conceded a goal in an entire tournament. The group allocation for this year is as follows Group A: JE Burnham Primary, Supply Primary, Sophia Primary and Goed Fortune Primary; Group B: Tucville Primary, St Pius Primary, FE Pollard Primary, and Soesdyke Primary; Group C: Stella Maris Primary, St Stephens Primary; Timehri Primary, and Maes Primary; Group D: West Ruimveldt Primary, St Margaret Primary, Clonbrook Primary, and Enterprise Primary; Group E: Winfer Gardens Primary, St Angela’s Primary, Marian Academy, and Golden Grove Primary; Group F: St Agnes Primary; North G/T Primary, Redeemer Primary, and Grove Primary; Group G: South Ruimveldt Primary, School of the Nations, Victoria Primary, and Mocha Primary; and Group H: St Ambrose Primary, Smith Memorial, Den Amstel Primary, and Colaaco Academy.
