Police are investigating the discovery of over 17 pounds (lbs) of cannabis during an intelligence-led operation conducted at the Bladen Hall Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday evening.

According to Police, the operation was carried out between 19:45h and 20:20h.
During the exercise, ranks contacted four occupants at the location: a 51-year-old labourer, a 45-year-old vendor, and a 26-year-old construction worker, all of Bladen Hall Squatting Area; and a 26-year-old woman of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.
A search of the premises was conducted, during which officers discovered a bulky black plastic bag concealed among vegetation in the yard. The bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The four persons were arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station.
Police said the cannabis was weighed in the presence of the suspects and amounted to 17.25lbs before being lodged.
The suspects remain in Police custody pending charges.
