Police are investigating the suspected drowning of an 89-year-old pensioner whose body was discovered in a canal at Mainstay/Whyaka on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), on Wednesday afternoon.
Dead is David France of Mainstay/Whyaka.
According to Police, preliminary investigations revealed that France was last seen alive at his home at about 12:45h on Wednesday. Investigators were informed that he would normally bathe in a canal located approximately 120 feet east of his residence.
At around 15:30h, relatives and residents became concerned after France was not seen at home, and checks were made for him. During the search, he was found floating in the canal east of the residence.
The body was removed from the water and taken to the Lima Regional Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead.
Police said the body was examined and no marks of violence were observed.
The remains have since been transported to the Suddie Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
