Over 200kg ganja found, destroyed in Linden

As the Police continue their ganga- eradication exercise across the length and breadth of Guyana, ranks in “E” Division (Linden/Kwakwani) on Saturday discovered, at West Watooka Wismar Linden, a field with over 3000 cannabis plants.

The eradication exercise started at about 16:00h as a party of policemen discovered a two-acre marijuana farm with about 2,000 cannabis plants ranging in height from one foot to five feet.
The farm also had a nursery with about 1,500 plants, and two makeshift camps with farming tools, clothing, kitchen utensils, 3 hammocks, and groceries along with a quantity of dried cannabis estimated to be about 60 kilograms.
The entire farm was destroyed by the lawmen, along with the dried cannabis and the utensil found.
The total cannabis destroyed at this farm has been estimated at 200 kilograms. However, just a short distance away, another half-acre farm was discovered and destroyed.
That half-acre farm had about 100 cannabis plants ranging in height from one foot to five feet. Also, there were utensils and groceries. The camps were destroyed by fire.
No arrests were made in connection with the two busts. However, the ranks are continuing with their investigations.
In the past, several hundred kilograms of marijuana were found and destroyed by members of the Police Narcotics Branch during raids on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway and along the Berbice River, as well as in the riverine areas of the Canje River.
A few days ago, Imtiaz “Sancho” Shaheed admitted to cultivating the illegal plant at Ituni Road, Upper Demerara, Region 10, and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
It was reported that Police ranks during the raid discovered a three-acre cannabis farm, two tents, and a quantity of dried cannabis along with a quantity of groceries.
Back in March, Police ranks conducted a similar exercise at Ebini, Rio Berbice, where six fields with an estimated 600,000 cannabis plants measuring four inches to five feet high were unearthed and destroyed.
During that raid, it was estimated that over 200kg of dried cannabis were also discovered and destroyed.
