Over $2M worth of ganja destroyed along Berbice River

A joint drug eradication exercise at Friendship Sandhill Village and Wiruni Savannah, Upper Berbice River, on Thursday has resulted in the destruction of over $2 million worth of ganja. Police stated that during the exercise at Friendship Sandhill Village, one field measuring approximately two acres, containing 10,000 cannabis plants, was discovered. The plants ranged between two and four feet in height. In addition, a makeshift camp and a nursery containing approximately 4140 cannabis seedlings were also found.

Additionally, at Wiruni Savannah, officers discovered a drying camp measuring approximately 40 feet by 15 feet, containing a quantity of dried cannabis.
The cannabis plants, seedlings, dried cannabis, makeshift camp, and drying camp were destroyed by fire. No arrests were made, and the exercise was conducted without incident. Meanwhile, the estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is $2,395,316. Investigations are ongoing.
