Over 3kg ganja found stashed in Mazaruni Prison

A quantity of marijuana was found stashed away in an area near the Mazaruni Prison kitchen by a team of prison officers who were conducting a cleaning exercise.

Reports are that on Tuesday at about 13:10h, the officers stumbled upon a white salt bag hidden behind the western side of the kitchen.
Upon investigating, they realised that the bag contained several bleach bottles and a quantity of leaves, stems and seeds suspected to be cannabis.
The Bartica Police Station was contacted and the cannabis was handed over, which, when weighed, amounted to 3067 grams.
No arrest was made but investigations are in progress.
Only a month ago a quantity of marijuana and several other prohibited items were found during a search at Mazaruni Prison.
Reports are that a six-hour search was conducted at the prison by ranks of the Bartica Police Station in collaboration with prison officers at the correctional facility.
While searching the upper dormitory, a black plastic bag was found hidden in the ceiling of the structure. Upon further examination, a quantity of ganja was unearthed.
The marijuana was taken to the Bartica Police Station and when weighed, amounted to 1580 grams (1.508kg).
In addition, five Blu phones, two Samsung phones, one Vodafone phone, two Alcatel phones, two ZTE phones, three Digicel phones, one LG phone, and one Hyundai phone – a total of 17 phones – and 17 batteries were found. (G9)
