In observance of the Month of the Elderly, Sunrise Centre – a branch of the Guyana Foundation in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), in collaboration with the Social Protection Ministry on Monday honoured more than 500 elders on the Essequibo Coast. The pensioners were given hampers and also treated to a snack.
According to Coordinator of the Sunrise Centre, Marian Roberts Hinds, the effort was a collaborative one which aims at reaching out to elders. During the Month, various services will be offered including grooming (pedicure and manicure) and counselling. Hinds said that elders are important in society and as such, should be given the respect they need.
Hinds also noted that the distribution was conducted at various post offices along the Essequibo Coast. Hampers are also expected to be distributed by the Guyana Foundation to more elders. The beneficiaries were loud in praise and thanked both organisations for their timely donation. (Indra Natram)
