Paiwomak Warriors, Guyana Rush Saints are champions

Action in the Rupununi Football Association’s (RFA’s) Champions League culminated with Paiwomak Warriors and Guyana Rush Saints being crowned the new female and male champions respectively.
For the females, in the third place playoff, Strikers FC defeated Guyana Rush Saints FC 1 – 0; while for the males, Kanuku Harpies and Titans FC romped to an entertaining 2 – 2, draw before the match ended 3 – 0 on penalty kicks in favour of Titans.
After two exhilarating third place playoffs, the highly anticipated female finale kicked off between Paiwomak Warriors and Flash FC. It was an exciting match, with saw both teams tied at 1- 1 when the regulation time whistle sounded. Extra time had Paiwomak Warriors going ahead in the first half with a successful goal, but the Flash FC equalised in the second half to push the game into a penalty shootout.
Paiwomak Warriors then won the intense showdown 3 – 2.
In the male finale, Guyana Rush Saints dominated an out-of-form Paiwomak Warriors, and won 3 – 1. The Warriors were unable to utilise their advantage although nerves got the better of either team, causing them to falter in the field.
