Home News Palms resident taken to ICU after respiratory system collapses
A male resident of the Palms Geriatric Home was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his respiratory system collapsed on Saturday.
The man is among five persons who have tested positive for the deadly virus at the facility. Bhaneshwar Ramdial, one of the five, has already succumbed to the deadly virus.
Guyana Times understands that a few domestic workers have stopped cleaning some of the wards at the Palms fearful of contracting the virus.
Last week, the Social Protection Ministry stated that it would soon implement measures to mitigate the spread of the deadly virus in the senior home.
In light of the recent death and cases at the facility, visits by family members have been banned and the staff was provided with protective equipment to perform their duties.
“Those residents who have tested positive for the virus have been separated from other residents and are being cared for in a separate area of the home,” a statement from the facility revealed.
The ward that houses those confirmed positive cases is sanitised twice daily.
Further, the Ministry added that all residents oi affected wards are tested and stringently screened on a regular basis.
