Parent, teacher charged over Winfer Gardens school attack

Another teacher and parent were on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged for assaulting each other at the Winfer Gardens Primary School.
The teacher, Yolanda Jackson, denied the charged which stated that on November 27, 2019, at the Winfer Gardens Primary School, Georgetown, she unlawfully assaulted Charmain Mendonca, causing her actual bodily harm.

On the other hand, the parent, Charmain Mendonca, also denied the assault charge which stated that on November 27, 2019, at the Winfer Gardens Primary School, Georgetown she unlawfully wounded Jackson.
Jackson was released on $20,000 bail, while Mendonca $30,000.
The matter was adjourned to January 29, 2020.
According to reports, the incident occurred at about 08:30h inside a Grade One classroom. The teacher had explained that the angry mother approached her and claimed that she had beaten her child to the point of leaving marks on the child’s skin.

Jackson, however, denied the claims. Jackson said the mother dragged her from one room to another and continued beating her. After the assault, the parent reportedly ran out of the compound and made a report at a Police Station.
The teacher received stitches to the forehead. Only on Monday, the parents of a child attending St Agnes Primary School and a teacher were cross-charged for assault following a dispute at the school.
It is alleged that on January 15, 2020, Sherwin Dalrymple (a parent) provoked Tiffani Hinds (a teacher) with intent to insult, annoy and assault her.
It was further alleged that Candace Peters (a family friend) unlawfully and maliciously damaged Hinds’ dress valued at $6,500.
Moreover, Soyini Gardner (Dalrymple’s wife) was charged for unlawfully assaulting Hinds and for damaging the teacher’s acrylic denture valued at $12,000.
Hinds, on the other hand, was charged for assaulting Gardner.
As a result, Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus granted Gardner bail in the sum of $50,000, Hinds $20,000, Dalrymple $20,000 and Candace Peters $20,000.
