Passenger traffic at CJIA skyrocketed for Jubilee celebration
Guyana’s main port of entry, the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has recorded a significant boost in passenger traffic during the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
CJIA records an 80.3% increase in passenger arrivals for Jubilee month
According to the Airport’s Statistics Department, there was an 80.3 per cent increase in passenger traffic at the CJIA at the end of last month when compared to May 2015.
The data shows that some 27,353 passengers arrived last month compared to 15,173 passengers for the same period in 2015.
Meanwhile, figures for the year to date, that is, from January to the end of May, have revealed that there was a 15 per cent increase in passenger arrivals compared to 2015, with a total of 102,110 passenger arrivals, while total passenger movement during the five-month period was recorded as 206,965.
The CJIA noted that the large influx of passengers was credited to Guyana celebrating its Jubilee anniversary as an independent nation on May 26, 2016. A plethora of events were organised leading up to the momentous day hence the high influx of passengers during that month.
Commercial airlines such as Caribbean Airlines, Dynamic Airways, COPA, Surinam Airways, Fly Jamaica and Insel Air all recorded surges in passenger movement for the month.
CJIA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ramesh Ghir disclosed that the Airport’s stakeholders partnered with management to guarantee a smooth arrival process.
