Patrons attending the Origins Guyana Fashion Festival are commending the event for celebrating local fashion, culture and entrepreneurship while providing a valuable platform for Guyanese designers and artisans to showcase their talent.
Hosted at the Railway Courtyard, the three-day festival has drawn scores of visitors eager to explore locally made clothing, jewellery, accessories and other creative products, as the Government continues to advance the country’s orange economy.
Patron Jeremiah Hopkinson described the festival as a welcoming space that brings creatives and the public together. “I can definitely tell that there are a lot of amazing people here that I would definitely want to connect with,” he told the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Saturday. Hopkinson also encouraged more Guyanese to support local cultural events. “We need to embrace our culture more…I love to dress up and come out, so definitely if we have more events like this, you might see more of me,” he added. Another patron, Arrona Fraser, said the festival has given local designers the exposure they deserved.

“I am here tonight to check out all of the local fashion because they’re a bit under the radar. You don’t really see it as much, so you come out here, you get to see more of it…the boots, the earrings and everything they have,” Fraser said. She noted that the event also creates opportunities for creatives to network and grow their businesses. First-time attendee Akita Felix said she was impressed by the creativity on display and believes events like origins are important for Guyana’s growing cultural landscape.
“This is my first time at a fashion show. I’m seeing the creative side of everyone…I really love what I saw,” Felix said. She added that she hopes to see more events of this nature, particularly because they create opportunities for young people to participate in and enjoy Guyana’s creative industries. “With everything that’s happening in Guyana, this will be really nice, especially for the youth…I’m really enjoying it,” she said. The Origins Guyana Fashion Festival forms part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s orange economy by supporting creative entrepreneurs, promoting cultural expression and creating new economic opportunities within the fashion industry. The festival features runway showcases, exhibitions, cultural performances and networking opportunities, highlighting the diversity, innovation and growing potential of Guyana’s creative industries.
