Pedal cyclist dies after riding into path of motor car

A pedal cyclist lost his life on Monday after he reportedly rode into the path of a motor car along Melanie Damishana Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The dead man has been identified as 42-year-old Shazin Hussain of Enterprise Squatting Area, ECD.

Based on information received, at about 17:00h on the day in question, the motor car bearing registration number PXX 5404 driven by a 27-year-old man of Mahaica, ECD, was proceeding along the Melanie Damishana Public Road when it is alleged that the pedal cyclist rode across the road and into the path of the motor car, resulting in a collision.

As such, the pedal cyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about his body. The injured man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
However, a breathalyser test was administered on the driver of the motor car but there were no traces of alcohol in his system. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
