Pedal cyclist killed in Soesdyke-Linden Highway accident

A 22-year-old pedal cyclist is the country’s latest road facility after he collided with a motor car at the Silver Hill Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, on Saturday.
Dead is Tyron Jerome of Kairuni Village, Soesdyke, Linden Highway. According to reports, at about 12:30h on Saturday, the motor car, PXX 2588, driven by a 26-year-old man of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was proceeding south along the eastern side of Silver Hill Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The driver of the motor car alleged that the pedal cyclist, who was proceeding in the said direction in front of him, in the centre of the road, with no hands on the handle, swerved east while he in the process of passing the said pedal cyclist.
The driver claimed that he applied brakes and swerved west to avoid a collision but the front left side of the car collided with the said pedal cycle’s rear wheel and as a result of the collision, the pedal cyclist fell onto the windscreen then onto the road’s surface.
Due to the impact caused by the accident, the pedal cyclist received injuries to his head and body, and was picked up in unconscious condition by the police and public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the motor car’s driver but no trace of alcohol was detected. The motor car along with bicycle were lodged with the police, and the driver is in custody and assisting with investigations.
