Pedestrian crushed by truck at Eccles traffic light
A 77-year-old woman was on Saturday crushed to death by a truck as she was crossing the Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) main access road.
The dead woman has been identified as Jasodra Samwaru of Grove Squatting Area, EBD.

The Police have said the accident occurred at about 10:00h and involved motor lorry GVV 1309. The truck was reportedly in the traffic at the Eccles stoplight, and as the light turned green, the truck drove off and struck down Samwaru, who was crossing the road.
The pedestrian fell on the roadway and was run over by the truck. She was later pronounced dead by a doctor of the Emergency Medical Service unit at the scene of the accident.

A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, but there was no trace of alcohol in his system. He was arrested and is assisting with investigations as they continue.
