The motor lorry that was involved in the accident

The body was identified as Sampson by his mother Lorraine Brower on Saturday at Carmen’s Funeral Home, Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
It was reported that the accident occurred at about 5:30h on Friday and involved a truck bearing registration number GAB 1668 that was at the time being driven by a 28-year-old resident of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice)
Reports are that the motor lorry was proceeding north along the western side of the road when the pedestrian, who was sitting on a tyre on the western side of the road, allegedly ran from west going east and into the path of the motor lorry.
The driver of the motor lorry claimed he applied brakes, but because of the short distance between the vehicle and the pedestrian, the left side front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
As a result of being hit, the pedestrian fell on the road’s surface and received injuries to his head and body. He was picked up in an unconscious state by the Police and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was seen and examined by doctors on duty, who later pronounced him dead.
A breathalyser test was administered on the driver of the truck but no trace of alcohol was found in his system. He is presently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
