Pedestrian killed in ECD accident

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 06:30h on Wednesday at the Felicity Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Reaz Nazir, 37, of Felicity Railway Embankment, ECD. Nazir was reportedly hit by motorcar PVV 7987 driven by a 50-year-old resident of Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown.
According to information from the Police, their enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was proceeding East along the northern carriageway, when it was alleged by the driver that the pedestrian, who was standing on the northern parapet suddenly ran South into the path of the vehicle.
Nazir was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at about 16:20h.
The driver, who passed a breathalyzer test, is in custody and is assisting with the investigation. An autopsy is expected to be performed today.
