Pensioner killed in Soesdyke-Linden Highway accident
An elderly woman was killed and several others injured after the motor car they were travelling in suffered a blow-out of one of its tyres and flipped several times on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Dead is 69-year-old Marva Alder of Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden. Those injured have been identified as 56-year-old Simone Barker, also of Wismar; 54-year-old Mervyn Mc Andrew, and 21-year-old Joel Mc Andrew of Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

The accident occurred sometime around 19:00h on Thursday evening in the vicinity of Long Creek on the highway.
According to Police reports, Alder and the three other persons were passengers in a hire car travelling on the highway when the driver claimed his left side front wheel blew out. This resulted in him losing control of the vehicle and it flipped several times before coming to a halt.
Alder was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead at the scene by an Emergency Medical Technician.
The other three passengers in the vehicle were removed and taken to the Mackenzie Hospital.
Barker was admitted as a patient in the female surgical ward suffering from head injuries, while the two other men were admitted in the Male Surgical Ward for observation.
Alder’s body was escorted to Carmen’s Funeral Home for storage awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the driver, a resident of Phase 1 B Wisroc Housing Scheme, was breathalysed but no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
