A 75-year-old pedestrian was on Saturday morning struck by a Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA) pick-up on the Number 79 Public Road Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Injured is Maria Parboodial of Lot 14 Grant 1802 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne. Reports are that the accident occurred at about 09:00h.
According to Police, the pick-up, PZZ 9759, was driven by a 42-year-old Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, Berbice, resident who is employed by the GLDA.
Police on Saturday said that the driver claimed that he was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane at a normal rate of speed when Parboodial walked across the road into the path of the motor pick-up.
The suspect alleged that he swerved to the left to avoid a collision but collided with the pensioner.
As a result, the victim fell to the road’s surface which caused her to receive injuries to her head and body. The driver picked up the victim in a conscious condition and took her to the Skeldon Public Hospital to receive medical treatment.
He has since been taken into custody as investigations continue.
