Pensioner struck off of pedal cycle by speeding minibus

A pensioner of Block CC Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is now hospitalised after a minibus struck him off his pedal cycle on the Better Hope Railway Embankment at around 08:00h on Tuesday.
Reports are that minibus BXX 9170, driven by a resident of Melanie, ECD, and the pedal cyclist were proceeding west along the southern driving lane of the road when the pedal cyclist signalled that he wanted to cross the road.
Police say the driver of a motor car stopped to allow the pensioner to cross the road, but the minibus overtook the car and collided with the pedal cyclist.
As a result of that collision, the pedal cyclist fell on the roadway and sustained injuries about his body. He was, however, picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Based on reports, he is suffering from a dislocated hip and punctured right leg.
The driver is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
Just a week ago, a 14-year-old pedal cyclist of Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was hospitalised after a motorcar struck him. That accident occurred on La Parfaite Harmonie Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Guyana Times has been informed that the driver of motorcar PZZ 2676 was proceeding south along the La Parfaite Harmonie Public Road when he collided with the teen.
As a result of the collision, the teen fell on the roadway and sustained multiple injuries about his body, while the driver sped away, leaving the teen lying on the ground.
The injured teen was picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited persons, and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he has been admitted. The injuries the teen sustained are a fractured left arm, head injuries, laceration to his right-side shoulder, and bruises about his body.
